Early morning

Depart Kampala and travel north to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

On arrival

Meet the sanctuary ranger for a safety and conservation briefing. The ranger explains how to move through the landscape and what to expect during the tracking experience.

Tracking experience

Walk through grassland and woodland while the ranger follows recent movement signs such as tracks, feeding areas, dung, resting points and territorial marks. Once the rhinos are located, observe them from a safe distance and learn about behaviour, family groups, breeding and Uganda’s rhino reintroduction programme.

Afternoon

Day 1

Depart Kampala early and travel to Murchison Falls National Park. Enter the park and continue to the lodge or activity point. In the afternoon, cruise along the Nile towards the base of the falls, watching for hippos, crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes and waterbirds. Visit the top of the falls where timing and operations allow.

Day 2

Begin before sunrise with a game drive across the savannah. Possible sightings include giraffes, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes and predators, subject to natural wildlife movement. Return for breakfast or brunch and begin the journey back to Kampala or onward transfer.

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1

Depart Kampala and travel to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary area. Check in and use the remainder of the day to rest before an early start.

Day 2: rhino tracking

After breakfast, meet the sanctuary ranger for a safety and conservation briefing. Track rhinos on foot through grassland and woodland. The ranger interprets fresh tracks, feeding areas, dung, territorial markings and resting sites before locating the animals. Observe from a safe distance while learning about individual rhinos, family groups, breeding, anti-poaching work and the wider reintroduction programme.

Day 2: Murchison

Continue to Murchison Falls National Park. Join the Nile boat cruise towards the base of the falls and watch for river wildlife and birds. Visit the top of the falls before proceeding to the lodge.

Day 3

Day 1: Kampala

Pick up from Kampala. Explore Kasubi Tombs, Kabaka’s Palace, the underground chambers, Kabaka’s Lake, Uganda National Mosque and Uganda Martyrs Shrine. Overnight Kampala.

Day 2: Jinja

Enjoy a relaxed morning before a late-morning departure to Jinja. Check into riverside accommodation and settle into the slower rhythm of the Nile. Overnight Jinja.

Day 3: Nile to Ziwa

Day 4: Rhinos and falls

Track rhinos on foot with a sanctuary ranger, learning about behaviour, breeding, habitat protection and Uganda’s reintroduction programme. Continue to Murchison Falls for the Nile boat cruise and top of the falls. Overnight Murchison.

Day 5: Safari and onward travel

Day 6: Kigali
